HOW TO AVOID EXPENSIVE MISTAKES

WHY YOU LIKE THE GARMENTS YOU WEAR ALOT

Try on the garments that you love and wear frequently.  Write down the answers to the questions below to get an idea of your best colours, fabrics and shapes.

• 1. How does wearing this garment make you feel?
• 2. Describe the colour - its depth (light or deep), clarity (bright or muted), yellow or blue based?
• 3. Is the fabric soft and drapey or stiff? Heavy or light weight?
• 4. What overall shape is it? Fitted? Unstructured? Boxy? Tailored?
• 5. Is it simple, or does it have more details such as frills, interesting buttons or a pattern?

WHY YOU HAVE GARMENTS YOU SELDOM OR NEVER WEAR

Now try on the garments that hang in your wardrobe, unworn and unloved.  Ask the same questions as before and compare the answers.  Also ask yourself a few more questions:

• 1. Do you have the occasions to wear this garment?
• 2. Does the colour make you look tired or ill?
• 3. Is the colour wearing you, rather than you wearing the colour?
• 4. Does the cut and/or fabric emphasise your figure assets, or liabilities?
• 5. Does it make you feel uncomfortable, either physically or mentally?

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE ASKING YOUSELF IN THE CHANGING ROOM

As well as the notes you've made already, you should now also ask yourself a few more questions:

• 1. Have you got at least 3 garments to wear with it?
• 2. Have you got shoes, jewellery and other accessories to wear with it?
• 3. Can you wear it for several different occasions?
• 4. Is it just appropriate for Summer or Winter, or could it be worn through most of the year?
• 5. Does the fabric crease?
• 6. Is it hand wash or dry clean only?
• 7. Think about price per wear. A more expensive, quality garment may well prove to be a better buy than a cheaper one only worn a few times.

• 1. If you're not longing to wear it immediately it will probably join the ranks of the unworn.
• 2. Everything you buy must have WOW FACTOR!
